³⁷ So Saul inquired of God, “Should I go down after the Philistines? Will You deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But He did not answer him that day. ³⁸ Then Saul said, “Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people; investigate and see how this sin was committed today. ³⁹ For as Adonai—Israel’s deliverer—lives, even if it was by my son Jonathan, he will surely die.” But not one among all the people answered him.
